If you’ve been to Reynolds Lake Oconee in the past few years, you’ve most likely crossed paths with Angel. We are thrilled to welcome Coach Angel back to the Lake Club full time as our wellness specialist and swim coach. Sims is a graduate of Furman University where she was NCAA Champion in the 200 Individual Medley. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business and later received her master’s degree at the University of Alabama.
Perhaps her most noteworthy accomplishment comes from her days as an Olympic Gold Medalist. As a world-class athlete, Angel competed internationally for over 10 years, competing in Barcelona in 1992 and again in Atlanta in the 1996 Summer Olympics. She has a combined 3 gold medals and 3 bronze medals from those games. Angel was also the world record holder for the women’s 100-meter backstroke from 1993 to 2001.
Since 2001, Angel has coached our youth swim team, The Reynolds Rapids, and our Masters Swim Program. She recently completed her certification as an ACE Personal Trainer, and in her new position as wellness specialist, she will assist and train members and help manage our fitness room.
Angel most recently gained experience as part owner of Bodyplex in Milledgeville. She is thrilled with her opportunity to come full time to Reynolds Lake Oconee. She looks forward to using her knowledge and experience to assist the members of the Club at Reynolds Lake Oconee with their individual workout routines.
