Sergio Garcia and Jason Day have played golf at the most prestigious courses in the world, so when the two PGA Tour stars say they can see why Reynolds Lake Oconee is recognized as the South’s most complete and exciting golf experience, their opinion carries a little weight.
“If you love golf, it’s a great spot to come and play until your hands fall off,” said Garcia, when the Spaniard was at Reynolds Lake Oconee last week filming for TaylorMade-adidas Golf’s 2014 advertising campaign. “With six great golf courses that are in great shape, I (would) come with maybe five or 10 friends for a nice golf holiday and spend a week or two here playing golf and having fun.”
The problem for Garcia and Day is that when they do get a chance to come to Reynolds Lake Oconee, it’s at best a “work-cation” and not just for fun.
“It is still always good to come back,” said Day, whose wife Ellie and 1 yearold son Dash joined him for his third visit to the Lake Oconee community. “It is so nice and quiet down here. We feel right at home.”
And while Day was filming, the rest of the family headed for the pool at The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee, and then the playground. “There are so many activities here, you can bring the whole family and stay for a week, and not run out of things to do, which is pretty amazing,” Day said. “They said the hotel was at 85 percent capacity and my wife said it felt like she didn’t see anybody.”
And the best part, he added, “My son made a friend.”
It’s not the first friendship forged at Reynolds Lake Oconee and won’t be the last. But it might be the youngest.
