At Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds, we always strive to enhance the outdoor experience for our members and guests. That's why we're thrilled to introduce exciting new additions to our already popular archery and sporting clays courses. Whether you're a seasoned archer or just starting, our newly updated 3-D archery course promises a fun and challenging way to sharpen your skills. We’ve also expanded our sporting clays course to include new clay target machines and a towering 50-foot-high platform for an elevated experience. In this article with Jasper Copelan, Operations Manager and Chief Instructor at SCSG, we'll dive into the details of these upgrades and how they can elevate your time at the range.

  • I hear you’re adding new targets to the course. What does that mean?

We added a full 3-D Archery course to complement our existing archery range, consisting of 16 different targets and four shooting stands.

  • How will the course be different for members who have already shot at SCSG?

For members who have already shot at our archery range, this is a great second step after you have learned the basics of archery at our traditional range.

  • Does this increase the difficulty of the course?

The great thing about this course is that the range gets progressively tougher as you go through it. We have a variety of targets that start at a beginner level and range to a seasoned expert wanting to shoot up to 70 yards!

  • Where are the new targets from? How are they special?

The new targets are from Rinehart, an industry-leading target that simulates a real-life hunting situation.

  • What else is new to the sporting grounds?

We have eight new clay target machines that have been added to our sporting clays course to further enhance the variety of great target presentations we have established. Additionally, we have added a 50-foot “High Tower” with clay target machines to simulate driven pheasants and many other tower shot presentations.

  • What was the inspiration behind expanding the courses?

The inspiration behind building the course was to enhance the variety of what we offer to our members and guests. Adding two elevated platforms simulates shooting from a tree stand like you would in a hunt in the wild, there aren’t many other places that offer this.

  • What are some insider tips for playing the new targets?

Playing the course through is the best recommendation I can give. With excitement and competitiveness, everyone wants to jump right into the hardest target with the most distance. However, it is better to start at the first stand and get a feel for the equipment as this will aid in building confidence throughout the course.
