Mollie Dunn, 29 and Jerry Applegate, 30, of Birmingham, Alabama, said “I Do” to Reynolds Lake Oconee and will be getting married on May 18, 2019. We sat down with Mollie to see what made Reynolds the right choice and how the planning process is going.
First things first: how did Jerry pop the question?
Jerry and I were at a Christmas party with friends where we were all exchanging secret gifts. After all the gifts were gone from the table, Jerry reached behind the tree to pull out one last gift that he had hidden. That bag contained an engagement ring and as I opened it, he got down on one knee and popped the question.
There are so many attractive venue options out there. What lead you both to choose Reynolds Lake Oconee as your wedding destination?
My mom and step-dad were married at Reynolds in 2013 and moved here shortly after, so whenever we “come home” it is to Lake Oconee. When Jerry and I got engaged, we remembered my mom’s wedding and knew right away Reynolds was the place we wanted to get married. It allows us to have a destination wedding without a long drive.
Reynolds has a number of great venues. Which one did you select for your special day?
We decided on the Sandy Creek Barn. We fell in love with it right away. It’s just so beautiful and there’s not a lot you have to do to dress it up. It’s definitely more our style and fits with our rustic theme.
How has the planning process been so far?
It has been fairly easy. With us being long-distance, there are obviously certain challenges to overcome. Luckily, my mom is right there to be able to give me a feel for things I am deciding on. Also, the event team has been very organized and communicative via email. They have been very available and we have been able to work collaboratively along with my wedding planner. I am coming in March for my final walk-through and am very excited for that.
What are you looking forward to the most, aside from saying “I Do,” with your Reynolds wedding weekend?
We are really looking forward to the whole experience of the weekend, not just the night of. There are so many things to do at Reynolds, so our family and friends are sure to have a fun and affordable lake weekend, play a little golf, and maybe even visit the spa. We were able to reserve several cottages and clubrooms close together within the community so our guests could be close to all the wedding festivities. We are confident it will be a weekend to remember for all!
