For six years, Reynolds Lake Oconee tennis members have enjoyed the warm weather of Naples, FL while also competing in the two-day Peter Burwash International (PBI) Cup. This year, 16 of our tennis members joined nearly 50 players from other PBI tennis facilities from all over the world at the Naples Grande Beach Resort on January 9.
The weekend competition included the following matches: PBI North vs. PBI South, Ages 55 and Over vs. Under 55, Men vs. Women and USA vs Rest of the World. The Reynolds Lake Oconee tennis team brought home the facility award for top score of larger participation clubs, while tennis members Lin Logan and Don McLendon were recognized as the individual doubles team winner in the 4.0 and above category.
“I am so proud of all of our members who participated in the PBI Cup,” says Dave Neuhart, PBI director of tennis at Reynolds Lake Oconee. “Everyone played hard, and we were fortunate to walk away with two awards in both overall categories.”
Players were also treated to free tennis clinics, a round robin, and a Pro-am style tennis exhibition. Neuhart plans to participate in the event again next year, with hopes of bringing an even bigger representation from tennis members.
“This was our largest group ever from Reynolds Lake Oconee,” says Neuhart. “The Northwood Hospitality property provided a terrific playing environment. Our members really have a lot of fun together and it was a treat to make a few new friends with members of other PBI clubs.”
