Wes Forester, Director of Golf at Reynolds Lake Oconee, was recently named 2021 PGA Golf Professional of the Year for the North Chapter of the Georgia PGA Section.
Forester came to Reynolds Lake Oconee in 2005, starting as head professional at The Preserve and later moved to Creek Club, the community’s private course, in the same position, before becoming Director of Golf in 2017. He oversees golf operations at all six Reynolds courses, The Kingdom at Reynolds Lake Oconee, and a staff of 18 golf professionals. A graduate of North Carolina’s Elon University, he has been a PGA Member since June 2001.
“This is a tremendous recognition for Wes’s steadfast commitment and dedication to serving our community at a very high level during a year of unprecedented demand for golf amidst a great deal of uncertainty in the operating environment. We at Reynolds Lake Oconee are extremely fortunate to have Wes at the helm of our golf operations now and continuing on into the future, and we congratulate him on his well-deserved award and recognition from Georgia PGA Section,” Jason Plazola, General Manager, Reynolds Lake Oconee.
The Georgia PGA is one of the 41 Sections of The PGA of America. Its membership includes over 890 PGA Professionals working at over 260 golf courses, clubs, and ranges throughout the state. Additionally, more than 35 Georgia PGA members compete on one of the PGA Tours. In keeping with the fundamental objectives laid down by its founders, one of the Georgia PGA’s primary goals is promoting the game of golf through clinics, junior and minority golf programs, consumer programs, and print and television media.
Reynolds Lake Oconee is considered one of the most diverse golf experiences in the southeast with courses designed by legendary architects: the recently renovated Great Waters by Jack Nicklaus, The National by Tom Fazio, The Oconee by Rees Jones, The Landing and The Preserve by Bob Cupp, as well as the members-only Creek Club by Jim Engh. The courses appear on numerous national “must play” lists and have hosted many prestigious professional and collegiate events throughout the years.
