Reynolds Lake Oconee is pleased to announce the recipients of its First Quarter Employee Awards for 2020. Ronald McWhorter, Superintendent at The Landing, has been named Leader of the Quarter, while Hershey Walton, Banquet Captain, and Sami Stevens, Senior Systems and Software Specialist, have been named Employees of the Quarter.
On June 18, 2020, Ronald McWhorter will celebrate his 34th year working at Reynolds. He enjoys the challenge of leading The Landing team on a daily mission to improve playing conditions.
“Every day is different, which keeps the job interesting,” says McWhorter. “Working with my teammates and seeing the smiles of Members and guests enjoying the greens is the best part of my job.”
Following his personal motto “do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” McWhorter not only serves the Members and guests at Reynolds Lake Oconee, but also the Greensboro community as a whole. He serves on the Greensboro City Council and Greene County Recreation Department board, and hopes to continue giving back for years to come.
When not keeping The Landing in pristine condition or serving the local area, McWhorter enjoys spending time with his wife, Shanta, children, Jasper, Jessica, Broderick, Kirsten, and Kursten, and nine grandchildren.
Before joining the Reynolds family, Hershey Walton earned a Masters in Sports Tourism Hospitality Management from Temple University, and was an undrafted NFL free agent following the 2016 draft. He participated in workouts with the Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles, and was a part of the Seattle Seahawks rookie mini-camp class. He joined the Reynolds family in August of 2017.
“In banquets, no two days are the same,” says Walton. “I get the opportunity to work events across property, and the honor of creating a memorable experience for the Members and guests of Reynolds.”
In his spare time, Walton enjoys working out, cooking, reading, and listening to music, and is a member of GSA Sports Tourism Hospitality Management.
Sami Stevens has worked at Reynolds for 23 years. She joined the team right after high school, simultaneously earning a degree in Information Technology. Since then, she has also earned certification in A+, Network+, MCP, and MCSA, all of which have become necessary to her daily success.
“At Reynolds, I have the opportunity to keep enhancing my skill set and challenging myself—nothing in IT is ever boring!” says Stevens. “The beautiful scenery and my wonderful coworkers are the best part of my job.”
When not troubleshooting technology issues for her coworkers, Stevens enjoys hiking, walking, and exploring outdoors with her children, Sydnie, age 15, and Vincent, age 10, and dogs, Drake and Bella.
