Ryann O’Toole flirted with Golf Channel analyst Charlie Rymer’s course record when she turned in the low round of her professional career – 8-under par 64 – during today’s second round of the Big Break Invitational Reynolds Lake Oconee to stand atop the leaderboard in the women’s division with 57 points in the Modified Stableford format. In the men’s division, Mark Murphy and round-one leader Tony Finau finished tied for the lead with a two-day point total of 55 points. They are a part of the field of 24 (12 men and 12 women) having made the cut who will advance to Thursday’s match play round.
The inaugural Big Break Invitational Reynolds Lake Oconee features a field of 40 past Big Break competitors going head-to-head in full tournament conditions for the first time in a four-day invitational tournament. The tournament featured a Modified Stableford format for the first two rounds, followed by match play (third round), and concluding with stroke play (final round) to determine the Big Break Invitational Reynolds Lake Oconee champion.
O’Toole (Big Break Sandals Resorts), a 2011 U.S. Solheim Cup veteran who is currently competing on the LPGA Tour, turned in eight birdies and no bogeys for a 64, her lowest competitive round as s professional. Emily Talley (Big Break NFL Champion, Big Break Mexico), birdied five of her final 10 holes today en-route to a 4-under par 68 (27 points in round 2, 46 points overall) to stand alone in second place.
Finau, (Big Break Disney Golf), who will compete on the PGA TOUR full time in 2015 after graduating from the Web.com Tour this year, and Mark Murphy (Big Break Ireland champion), finished the Stableford portion of the tournament tied atop the leaderboard in the men’s division with 55 points. Finau carded a second-round 2-under par 70, while Murphy turned in a 3-under par 69. Mark Silvers (Big Break Greenbrier, Champion) carded the low round of the tournament on the men’s side with a 66 to move into third place with 52 total points for the opening two rounds.
Following today’s second round, a cut was made to separate the top 12 men and 12 women having accumulated the most points in the Modified Stableford format. Thursday’s third round will feature match play (men vs. men, and women vs. women) seeded according to their point totals over the first two days. The six men and six women match-play winners will advance to Friday’s stroke play to determine the Big Break Invitational Reynolds Lake Oconee Champion.
