Most days, brothers Jay and Corey Johnson are certified club-fitters at The Kingdom at Reynolds Lake OconeeThe Kingdom at Reynolds Lake Oconee, making sure their clients are using the perfect TaylorMade clubs for their games. But this week, they’ve been working with different sets of clubs as they caddie for two of the contestants in the Big Break Invitational Reynolds Lake Oconee.
And how are they doing? Both of their players are in the stroke-play finals today, with a $100,000 prize awaiting the winner.
Jay is carrying for Brent Long who, “ground it to get to here. It was a battle, but we pulled it out, 1-up to beat Mark Silvers.” Jay and Brent, a TaylorMade player, have been friends for more than seven years and have worked together at The Kingdom.
Corey is on the bag for Jay Woodson, who had a 5&4 victory over Mark Murphy. “He had a tough first two rounds and really grinded to get here,” said Corey. Of Thursday’s match-play contest, he said, “Jay was awesome today—eight birdies in 14 holes.”
Having worked with the players at The Kingdom has paid big dividends. “We know these players as clients,” said Jay. “We’ve watched them hit 10,000 balls and tweaked their swings.” It also helps that both Jay and Corey know every inch of the Great Waters course.
“We’re Kingdom hot shots and ready for the finals,” they joked together.
