Best sunset on the lake? At this moment, we’ll say yes, it’s here —wherever we are.
It’s a great excuse for a dinner cruise: Searching for the best sunset on Lake Oconee. The ingredients are all here. A26-footpontoon. Friends. A cooler. The last two hours of a sun-painted day on the lake. No one on board can agree on where to watch the sun go down. Perfect.
On previous evenings we’ve cruised around the peninsula at The Ritz-Carlton to a view that stopped us in our tracks. We’ve watched the sun rays ricochet off the islands near Jumping Rock, turning them a mysterious shade of orange. This time we head for Great Waters and instead get caught in a little impromptu boat parade. Three pontoons and two wakeboard boats are heading … who knows where? We follow them west, past coves and bays and points, straight toward a fireball that appears to submerge into the lake. Down … down … gone. Incredible.
