The guides at Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds not only know the world-class shooting sports playground at Reynolds Lake Oconee inside-out, but after completing an intensive, two-day National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) Recreational Instructor Course with flying colors, six guides earned their certification. With this accomplishment, the entire team of eight Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds guides are now Certified Recreational Instructors.
“This accomplishment allows us to provide our guests with professional instruction while they are being guided through the various shooting experiences,” said Justin Jones, the Director of Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds. “It is much like a golfer’s caddie being a PGA teaching professional, with the education and insight to do more than just offer a few pointers.”
The Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds’ team completing the recent NSCA certification course included Thomas Condon, April Evans, Lewis Gasaway, Jeff Lorenzini, Wayne Smith and Gary Wolf. They join Jones and Jasper Copelan as certified instructors. Evans also serves as the Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds’ concierge.
The program was led by a NSCA Chief Instructor and included classroom sessions and exams. The team then had to put their skills and knowledge to the ‘shooting’ test to verify their individual abilities.
The newly certified guides will help Reynolds’ Members and guests discover the beauty and adventure of The Sandy Creek Sporting Grounds. Designed by Jones, an acclaimed international shooting champion from Great Britain, the grounds are woven into 100 acres of beautiful countryside and feature a 20-station sporting clays course, a five-stand shooting range, a sporting clays instructional and games area, an air rifle range, and an archery range. Outdoor activities also include fishing, kayaking, canoeing and hiking.
